PAS vice presidents Salahuddin Ayub and Mahfuz Omar are jointly filing a suit against the  government next week, over their “‘wrongful arrest” on July 9.

NONE According to party mouthpiece Harakah Daily , the duo allege that they were wrongfully arrested beyond the city business district limits, that a restriction order had barred them from entering on that day of the Bersih 2.0 rally.

Salahuddin ( right ) told the online news site that they were both arrested at about 11.50am on July 9 near KL Sentral, and held at a lock up in Jinjang police station until 9.30pm that day.

“My arrest was mala fide ; it goes against the federal constitution and my fundamental human rights,” he was quoted  saying.

Lawyer Zulhazmi Sharif of Faiz Fadzil and Co will file the suit by end of August, naming the police force, Home Ministry and the federal government as the defendants.

Harakah Daily reported that Perak PAS deputy commissioner Razman Zakaria will also file a similar suit against the same defendants.  

Salahuddin on Jul 11 lodged a police report on the matter, stating that he was arrested at the entrance of KL Sentral.

NONE The station is located on Jalan Stesen Sentral, near Jalan Travers and Jalan Tun Sambanthan. Neither roads are covered by the areas listed in the restriction order.

Police had on July 7 obtained a restriction order for 91 individuals including the two PAS vice presidents, from entering the Kuala Lumpur business district in July 9.  

The restricted areas were Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Dang Wangi, Sogo premises, around Dataran Merdeka, around Istana Negara, Dataran Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur, Jalan Syed Putra, Jalan Istana, Jalan Bukit Petaling, Jalan Bellamy, Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin, Jalan Lembah Perdana, Jalan Chenderasari, around Masjid Negara, around Central Market, around Masjid Jamek, Maju Junction, Masjid Kampung Baru, Jalan Kinabalu, Jalan Kuching, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Sri Amar, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Haji Taib, Jalan Raja Muda Musa, Jalan Raja Bot, Jalan Raja Abdullah, Jalan Munshi Abdullah, Jalan Gereja, Jalan Raja Chulan, Jalan Tun Perak, Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Loke and Jalan Sultan Mahmud.
