Rise in complaints of poor broadband service

This follows the drastic rise in the number of complaints over the past two years.
Of the 1,324 complaints received by the Communications and Multimedia Consumer Forum Malaysia (CFM) in 2009, the highest involved broadband category which registered 683 complaints.
"Last year, of the total 1,785 complaints received, the broadband category still recorded the highest number of complaints at 872, as compared to other services.
"Most of the complaints on broadband category centred on the speed of the broadband service which were not up to the mark, and the lack of coverage of broadband service.
"Usually, after we receive a complaint, we would notify the service providers and look for a win-win solution," CFM executive director Azizan Mohamad Afandi told Bernama in Kuching today.
Platform to air your grievances
Based on the Malaysia Multimedia and Communications Commission (MCMC) statistics in the first quarter of this year, broadband penetration in the country is 57.6 per cent, with 6.6 million subscriptions.
CFM is an organisation established under the MCMC as platform for consumers to air grievances against related industries under the purview of MCMC.
