The government is considering a proposal to enable personal tithe to be paid online like income and business tithes, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom.

He said paying personal tithe online to the Tithe Collection Centre (PPZ) would be valid in term of ' akad ' (contract utterance) even though it would not be made through ' amil ' (tithe collector).

The proposal is feasible like the online payment of income and business tithes which was introduced last year and is popular among Muslims below 40 years, he told reporters after launching the rebranding of the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP)'s PPZ portal in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Jamil Khir said RM39.2 million income and business tithes were collected online last year from 37,730 Muslims aged below 40.

He said until last month, MAIWP collected RM163 million from income and business tithes, an increase of 28 percent compared to the corresponding period last year.

As of July, tithe payers have increased by 16 percent to 74,675, he added.
