Some 245,376 illegal immigrants have been registered until noon today since the 6P Programme was launched on Monday, said Home Affairs Ministry deputy secretary-general (senior) Alwi Ibrahim.
He said registration of illegal immigrants was made at 197 immigration offices and 1,934 counters managed by 336 outsourced companies.
Selangor was highest with 79,855 followed by Kuala Lumpur (54,041), Johor (31,060), Penang (18,278), Perak (13,358), Pahang (12,218), Putrajaya (11,641), Negri Sembilan (9,146), Kedah (7,738), Melaka (3,981), Kelantan (1,690), Terengganu (1,557), Perlis (648) and Labuan (255).
“A special meeting chaired by Home Ministry secretary-general Mahmood Adam was held this morning aimed at sharing status of 6P programme with secretaries-general and agency heads in relation to requirement of foreign workers,” he said in a statement in Putrajaya today.
On complaints from outsourced companies that they were unable to operate due to technical problems, Alwi said it was because of many factors including use of incompatible operating systems.
He urged companies facing problems to coordinate their operating systems and that over 100 of the ministry’s IT personnel had been directed to monitor operations and help address technical problems.
“For example, problems with installation or uploading data,” said Alwi.
Those with complaints or problems can contact the ministry’s operations room at tel 03-8886 8110/8112.
