In a police crackdown to stop the gathering to mark the sentencing of jailed former deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim this Saturday, two more reformasi activists were arrested under the Internal Security Act (ISA) today by police, bringing the total number of arrests to seven since yesterday.

The latest arrests were Keadilan Youth executive councillor Abdul Ghani Harun and Free Anwar Campaign (FAC.com) webmaster Raja Petra Kamaruddin.

Keadilan vice-president Tian Chua, Youth head Mohamad Ezam Mohd Nor, malaysiakini columnist and film-maker Hishammudin Rais and chairman of the Committee for the People's Memorandum of April 14, Saari Sungib, were arrested late yesterday afternoon while Keadilan Youth assistant-secretary N Gopalakrishnan was arrested in Langkawi at 11.30pm.

Abdul Ghani was arrested this morning at the Kuching airport in Sarawak when he arrived to catch a flight to Kuala Lumpur.

According to Keadilan liaison chief Ruslan Kassim, Ghani was arrested by five plainclothes policemen at about 10.30am.

Ruslan, who was also in Kuching, told malaysiakini that a few top leaders of the party and their lawyers will try to meet the Sarawak state police chief this afternoon.

'Be prepared'

Raja Petra, meanwhile, was arrested at about 9.30am this morning on his way back to his house in Sungai Buloh.

Ghani's wife Roslizah Syed said that her husband was in Sarawak to attend a ceramah session.

She said Ghani had called her about half-an-hour before his arrest and had advised her "to be prepared and to look after the children" as a number of Keadilan leaders had already been arrested under the ISA by police yesterday.

An hour later, a Keadilan activist informed her that her husband had been arrested by the police.
