An independent MP has called for a change in the leadership of Gerakan, saying the party must do that if it is serious about recapturing Penang in the next general election.

Zahrain Mohd Hashim, the MP for Bayan Baru, told a news conference the party should have a new leader in line with the people’s desire for change.

Gerakan is headed by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Dr Koh Tsu Koon. He failed to win the Batu Kawan parliamentary seat in the general election in 2008.

Asked whether he had any leader of calibre in mind who was a good candidate for chief minister, Zahrain said there were many people of various races.
