The PAS-led Kedah government is to emulate the federal government’s decision and pay a half-month salary or a minimum of RM500 as a bonus to civil service personnel in the state this month.
Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak said today all Kedah state assemblypersons would also be paid the bonus of a half-month salary.
“We will make the bonus payment on Aug 18, along with this month’s salary. Altogether, we will spend more than RM5 million,” he told Bernama when contacted at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur where he had been admitted for examination of a heart condition.
Meanwhile, an estimated 16,000 Sarawak civil servants will receive half-month salary or a minimum of RM500 as a bonus, said Planning and Resource Management Minister II Awang Tengah Ali Hassan in Kuching.
He said about 2,000 undergraduate interns working on a contractual basis with several state government agencies will also receive the bonus.
“Sarawak will emulate the federal government decision and pay the bonus before Hari Raya Aidilfitri,” he told reporters today.
The state government has allocated RM14.1 million for the purpose, he said.
