Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) rival faction deputy president Sng Chee Hua today denied that he is trying to construct a 'political dynasty' by getting family members involved in the party.

Sng - who belongs to the faction led by Dr James Masing - claimed that this is a baseless allegation being spread by his opponents.

According to rumours, the deputy president is trying to get his daughter Jessie to emulate her brother Larry's footsteps. The latter is the state assembly representative for Pelagus.

Local newspapers have also reported that a 22-year-old non-Dayak woman is being groomed to contest in one of PBDS' six parliamentary constituencies in the next elections.

No intention

Although the reports did not name the person, fingers started pointing at Jessie who is currently studying in London.

However, Sng told malaysiakini that his daughter is only19 and he has no intention of proposing her as a candidate for the elections.

"I myself have no intention to stand for elections again," said the PBDS leader, who has served both as a member of Parliament and state assembly representative.

In the last parliamentary elections, he was dropped in favour of first-timer Joseph Salang Gandum ( left ). The latter is a current rival of Sng and deputy president of the faction led by Daniel Tajem ( right ).

Despite his denial, various sources claimed that Sng is planning to groom his daughter for a future role in politics and the possibility of her contesting for the Selangau parliamentary constituency has been frequently mentioned.

The incumbent is Joseph Mauh, who is also aligned to the Masing faction.

Julau seat

In another development, One of Sng's brothers Chee Eng was recently appointed by the state government as the new Chinese Temenggong for Kapit.

According to Sng, the appointment has the support of the elected representatives of the Kapit Division, including the MP for Kapit Alex Linggi, MP for Ulu Rajang Billy Abit, state assembly representative Ambrose Blikau, Larry Sng, Stanley Ajang and Masing.

The newly-appointed Temenggong for the Dayak community is Kenneth Kanyan anak Temenggong Koh from another Barisan Nasional component Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu (PBB).

Meanwhile, there is talk that the Masing faction had already identified a candidate for Julau should the Registrar of Societies (ROS) rule in their favour.

The Julau parliamentary seat is currently held by rival deputy president Joseph Salang.

The outcome of the leadership tussle in PBDS now rests with the ROS, who will decide on which faction is the legitimate one.
