The Barisan Nasional (BN) is to meet with the Election Commission (EC) to discuss the best method to maintain clean and fair elections in the country, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said today.
He said the issue of a clean and fair elections was also the focus of the BN which was committed to ensuring that and it was not a monopoly of others only.
“We will have discussions with the EC, and others can also hold such discussions, so that the EC can come up with a method which can maintain elections free of disputes. We (BN) are open in this matter, and will discuss the best formulae with the EC,” he said after chairing a meeting of the BN supreme council in Kuala Lumpur.
Najib said the misconception that the BN was not championing clean and fair elections could then be refuted.
On the opposition demand for an emergency sitting of parliament to discuss the issue of permanent residents becoming voters and instant citizens, Najib said: “When the time comes, we will make a statement.”
