Malacca Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam has expressed regret over the playing up of news on the same-sex marriage of two men to take place soon in Malaysia.   

He said highlighting the matter in the media gave the implication that same-sex marriage was encouraged in the Malaysian community comprising people of various races and religions.

ou yang wen feng book launch penang 150810 ou yang wen feng The Star has reported on Thursday that self-confessed Malaysian gay pastor Rev Ou Yang Wen Feng, 41, and his African-American partner Phineas Newborn III, 47, would marry at the end of this month or early next month, with the wedding ceremonies to be held in New York and Malaysia.

The newspaper had ignored the sensitivity of the people in the country who regarded same-sex marriage as something extraordinary and prohibited by religion, Ali said at a Ramadan event organised by Kedah Puteri Umno in Kampung Air Putih, Junjong, Kulim last night.

He advised the people to be wary of this latest development in the way of life and not to be influenced by it.

Earlier, Ali gave away groceries and "duit raya" (cash) to about 200 poor people, single mothers and orphans.
