The plan by Malaysian gay pastor Ouyang Wen Feng to marry his same sex partner in this country indicates that liberal thinking upheld by a few quarters is spreading in Malaysia, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom.   

He said that although the action was attributed to basic human rights, it was nevertheless an extreme freedom and could lead to worse social symptoms in the future.      

"In our civil law, same sex marriage is not allowed. Because in the laws of our country, a male must marry a female. Male and male, female and female is not allowed," he told reporters after performing the ground-breaking ceremony for the new Al-Hijrah surau in Lembah Pantai here today.      

He also said the National Fatwa Council had decreed that such views were contrary and prohibited in the context of the Islam.      

Commenting on the issue of the Penang Fatwa Committee which banned the reading of the Quran using the loud speaker during subuh (dawn) prayers, Jamil Khir said the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) would hold a discussion with the Penang Islamic Council to find a settlement.
