About 70 percent areas in Kelantan will get faster broadband service when all technical work being undertaken is completed soon.
Chairperson of the information development, science and technology committee Mohamed Fadzli Hassan said the broadband operating or WiFi system project is undertaken by Infra Quest Sdn Bhd in cooperation with YTL Communication Bhd.
"When all the technical work is completed, we expect about 70 percent of the areas in Kelantan to be covered with the broadband internet system," he told reporters in Kota Baru today.
Fadzli said facilities provided by the state government was to enable the people have to access to the internet via the faster wifi system.
"It can also enhance knowledge and use of information and communications technology (ICT) to put Kelantan on par with other states in terms of development," he said.
With this system in place, Kelantan will enjoy a wifi system that is even faster than in Penang and Johor.
He said the rate of ICT usage and knowledge among Kelantanese was still low compared to the other states adding the facility would expose the present and future generation to explosion of modern technology.
In another development, Fadzli said the state will this year introduce awards for local journalists in appreciation of their contributions and service.
