Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim will enter his defence as scheduled on Monday.

NONE This comes after his defence team had already interviewed its 24 potential witness to be called, including a former staff member of the PKR headquarters office, Mohd Rasid Rosdi ( left ).

“We still do not know whether the police have managed to locate the remaining witness, former maid Fitria Dipan.

“Nevertheless, as we had given our undertaking to the judge, Anwar will begin his defence on Monday,” said lawyer Sankara Nair.

Sankara said the defence will decide on Sunday night on the options to be taken by the politician in his defence.

There are three options available - that is for Anwar to take the witness stand for him to testify, or testifying from the dock where he cannot be cross-examined, or remaining silent.

This is the second time in less than 15 years that Anwar is being charged with sodomy.

He is charged with sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, 25, at the Desa Damansara condominium between 3.01pm and 4.30pm on June 26, 2008.

No details on the seven divulged

The defence team have decided to call seven witnesses for Anwar’s defence.

However, Sankara refused to divulge details as to who they are as there are issues of them going to court and having subpoenaes issued to call them as defence witnesses.

Among the 24 whom the defence had interviewed were Premier Najib Abdul Razak, his wife Rosmah Mansor and former IGP Musa Hassan.

In addition to the seven, there is also a likelihood that two Australian specialists hired by Anwar would also take the stand.

They are forensic pathologist Dr David Wells and DNA specialist Dr Brian McDonald.
