Police are collecting detailed information on an acid splashing incident in Jalan Raja Laut on Aug 8, including interviewing the victim about the suspect's description.
City police chief Mohmad Salleh said police would study the victim's tracks to the scene in order to identify possible witnesses who could shed light on the case.
"We are also waiting for forensic analysis on the type of acid used by the suspect which has caused serious injury to the victim. Police have yet to make any arrest over the incident," he said in the social networking site, Facebook.
The victim, in his 20s, employed as a sales assistant at a supermarket, was splashed with acid on Aug 8 by an unknown man while he was inside his car beside a public toilet near Wisma Bumi Raya, Jalan Raja Laut.
The splasher had opened the victim's car door and splashed acid which resulted in burns on the victims's face before fleeing in a car with two other male accomplices.
Mohmad Salleh said cooperation from sellers of acid was needed to help track down any purchases of the substance by men aged between 25 and 30 before Aug 8.
Acid not a controlled substance
"As the victim sustained grave injury, police have classified this case under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a weapon or any other dangerous item," he added.
Later when met after a breaking-of-fast function at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters, Mohmad Salleh reminded the public that they had a responsibility to report to the police should they witness such incidents.
"Please report these cases... it may seem a small or minor information but who knows it can help solve the case," he said.
He added that police were unable to identify purchasers of acid at shops because there were no sales records which could provide a lead to solving the case.
