Kelantan Umno chief Mustapa Mohamed today said the election simulation in the state would be held from Sept 16 to 30.

He said briefings were being held in stages to party branch leaders and heads of polling streams as part of the preparation for the election dry run.

"I see that the spirit among Umno members is growing and it is hoped that this election simulation will receive good response," he told reporters after presenting tithe to orphans in the Ketereh parliamentary constituency in Kota Bharu today.

The would be a follow-up to the directive by party headquarters after Umno's supreme council on May 27 decided that mock runs must be held in preparing for the general election.

Young people among BN candidates

 

Mustapa, who is international trade and industry minister, said "young people" would be among candidates to be fielded by BN to contest in Kelantan in the coming general election.

He said the new faces should also be given the opportunity to contest as an added value to help secure a win for BN in the election.

"Generally, the young people understand the needs and wants of the young voters. Hence, the need to have young people in the list of the election candidates," he added.

He expected the BN candidates in the state to include members of NGOs, government agencies, retirees, religious figures and academicians.
