PAS is planning to take mass legal action against the Federal Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (Felcra) for failing to distribute "sensible" dividends to settlers.

PAS national land and development bureau chairperson Mazlan Aliman said the party has received complaints from settlers that they have only been given RM200 in dividends for three months.

NONE "The sum is very low and it does not make sense. Normally, for a five-acre plot, the profit can be RM2,000 a month," said Mazlan ( left ), who also heads Persatuan Anak Felda Kebangsaan (Anak).

Felcra pays dividends - income minus the cost of farming - to the settlers four times a year, or every three months.

According to Mazlan, the party has received the same complaint from six states, with the majority of the cases from Perak.

"We will work on the suit after the Hari Raya celebration," he said, but declined to state the number of settlers who will take part in the suit.

The case would be similar to the Mohamad Ramli Sanji vs Felcra matter, which the Perak settler won in court two weeks ago, he told a press conference at PAS headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

'Felcra Cooperative not registered'

Mazlan also said problems in Felcra's management were the reason the settlers were unaware of the amount of their individual earnings as it is calculated as a "lump sum".

"For example, (Felcra) announced that the earnings of (all the settlers) is RM200,000, without any calculation according to the amount in tonnes (produced by individual settlers)," he said.

Mazlan also took a swipe at the Felcra Cooperative, saying that it has been accorded with more power than the Felcra management.

"The cooperative is not even registered. If it is not audited, no one will be able to check on it," he said, citing information from the Perak settler Mohamad Ramli's suit.

He also claimed that Felcra's failure to pay better dividends was because the authority was unwarrantedly spending its earnings.
