United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan has cancelled a visit to Malaysia to attend an Islamic summit, a UN official said today.

"We received a fax saying the trip is cancelled," the official, who requested anonymity told AFP .

"No reasons were given why the trip was put off," he said.

Annan was due to arrive in Malaysia tomorrow for a summit of the 57-member Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC).

On Saturday the UN announced that Annan had cancelled a visit to India from Oct 12 to 14.

"The trip has been put off as Mr Annan is very busy with issues pertaining to the evolving situation in Iraq," a UN official said then.

Annan was to visit India on his way to the OIC summit, which opens Thursday in Malaysia's new administrative capital of Putrajaya, south of Kuala Lumpur. - AFP
