More vehicles are plying the North-South Expressway (PLUS) today, with heavy traffic reported in several stretches.

PLUS has urged motorists to start their journey back to the city after 6pm to avoid causing congestion.

PLUS said in a Twitter update this afternoon that traffic was slow between Km 226 and Km 230.5 towards the south from Changkat Jering to Kuala Kangsar, Perak.

There was congestion from the Juru toll plaza heading towards Kuala Lumpur as well as from Yong Peng to Pagoh in Johor due to an accident at Km 101.9, north-bound.

Heavy traffic was building up from the Seremban rest area towards Nilai and the Sungai Perak rest area towards Menora Tunnel, Perak.

   

“Traffic is smooth at the Sungai Besi and Jalan Duta toll plazas," a PLUS spokesperson said.

Later in the evening, Traffic flow on the North-South Expressway was smooth in both directions except for some hilly stretches where traffic was moving slowly.

 

A PLUS spokesperson, when contacted by Bernama this evening, said traffic was only low at a few hilly stretches from Tapah to Gopeng and from Bidor to Slim River.

Meanwhile, a Bukit Aman Traffic spokesperson said traffic on all roads towards Kuala Lumpur was smooth.

In a related development, 18 people were killed, 14 of them motorcyclists, on the 10th day of Ops Sikap yesterday, bringing the total death toll due to road accident to 184, police said.

A total of 6,334 summonses were issued to traffic offenders yesterday.
