Kedah Gerakan Youth today proposed the inclusion of a provision in the Kedah constitution for the post of deputy menteri besar.

NONE Its head, Tan Keng Liang, said the proposal should be looked into after getting the blessings of the sultan to ensure uninterrupted operation of the state administration in the event the menteri besar is indisposed for a long time.

"We must understand that no one can predict the health or other problems which may afflict any menteri besar, whether from the Pakatan Rakyat or the BN.

"A stable government should make provision for any eventuality that may befall the top leaders," he said in a statement.

Tan said the proposal was made in view of the poor health of Kedah Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak following a heart attack in July.

"I hope that the Kedah Pakatan Rakyat would consider the proposal for the sake of the state's stability and the good of the people of Kedah," he said, adding that a deputy menteri besar could take over the functions of the menteri besar in the event that the latter was unable to function in a period of 30 days.
