Anwar's second daughter may stand in Nibong Tebal

Jedi_Who: Many of us want Pakatan Rakyat to win to bring back true democracy and hope for a better Malaysia. Bersih is not about you (Anwar Ibrahim) alone, so likewise, don't make the opposition about you as well by putting your entire family into it.

Only together with all the other component parties and the support of the people can Pakatan win. Give others a chance to rise and fight for Malaysia's future.

Umno has been doing this inbred family feudal thing all this while - from father to son to cousin to distant cousin, and people have had enough of it.

Ah Hoe: Don't blame Anwar - after all, he twitted ‘no' to the suggestion. Blame those fanatical Anwaristas who idol-worship him to such an extent that (Anwar's daughter) Nurul Izzah has been ridiculously titled ‘Princess Reformasi' and presented as the next PM should Anwar be jailed.

Now those morons have nominated another daughter, a mere young girl, to be the candidate for the Nibong Tebal parliamentary seat.

Doesn't PKR Penang have anyone suitable? Are all their members so stupid that they can't even find a professional instead of Anwar's daughter?

I don't blame Nurul or Nuha, but can anyone in PKR please tell me why Nurul has been so titled, and why she deserves to the next PM (assuming her father is imprisoned), and why Nuha is the best candidate for Nibong Tebal?

Yvoon: The seat is not PKR's to give to anyone - whether to someone in Anwar's family or not. The voters have the final say. Whoever runs will have a bruising fight. Choose the best candidate for Pakatan.

If Nuha is selected and she wins, she deserves to be there regardless of her own family's involvement in politics.

Disgusted: Anwar, please don't put anymore of your family members up for parliamentary or state seats. Just you and Nurul will do. If for some reason you can't, then your wife Wan Azizah Wan Ismail should step in as before.

Let Nuha be an ordinary member, but be active in NGOs like Bersih to get experience dealing with the rakyat and as well as expose her to them. Then only should she stand for elections at state or parliamentary level, perhaps after 13th GE.

Anonymously: It doesn't matter who stands in Nibong Tebal. Just make sure that the frog (former PKR MP Tan Tee Beng) loses his deposit. The electorates should have zero tolerance for political turncoats.

BN, Pakatan to slug it out on Indian issues

Gandhi: In my opinion, this meeting is just a waste of time. I would rather use the RM100 (registration fee) to buy some uniforms for school children than listen to these novice politicians.

If the organisers are sincere, get every social activist to participate - not only G Palanivel, P Ramakrishnan and Xavier Jeyakumar.

Without Hindraf Makkal Sakthi's participation this is a futile endeavour as only they speak the truth and tell the whole world the exact situation of the Indians.

JoePaulAmnesty: The intention for discussion is good. But what will be new? It is indeed a shame that all the speakers are male.

Why are there no women to bring out the gender perspective and experiences of the women who form half the population and are increasingly becoming breadwinners? Without women's voices, there will be no change.

Kanke: Action speaks louder than words - why bother to debate if nothing said is done. In our Indian society, the rich become richer and the poor become poorer. Nothing much has changed since our country gained independence.

All these politicians who are trying extra hard to boast of each other's competence, should focus on finding practical solutions to Indian issues instead of getting involved in this time-wasting stunt.

Docs: This is something new and interesting - both sides of the political divide are coming together to debate on the fate of the Indian Malaysians. No matter what the outcome is (as long as it does not result in slippers flying), I think this effort is commendable.

Wfworker: If a community becomes too dependent on political leadership in this Bolehland, then you will be frustrated for a long, long time. After 54 years, there are still many Indians who believe MIC will change all a sudden?

Based on some comments indicated here, many of you are seeking some kind of magic wand. Pakatan, without control at federal level, cannot do much.

David Dass: The Indians need an end to race-based politics. When opportunities, privileges and perks are determined on the basis of race, minorities will be the losers. They will be excluded.

Race-based parties produce leaders who when in government see their duty as only looking after members of their own race. Merit is incidental. The minorities lose and the nation loses.

Indians need good homes, good education, jobs and opportunities for advancement. Many Indians are mired in a poverty trap and will not be able to break free without government's help.

The Indian community is plagued with social problems - alcoholism, single parent families, high drop-out rates, low level of technical skills, poor representation at universities and issues relating to poor nutrition.

Indians require the leaders of this country to treat them equally.
