The 24th Ops Sikap recorded 26 more deaths from road accidents nationwide yesterday, the 24th day of the operation, with 17 of the victims being motorcyclists.

The Bukit Aman police website today reported that eight of the fatalities involved motorists including a van driver, and a pedestrian, bringing the total number of fatalities to 280 since the operation began on Aug 23 in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive season.

It was also reported that 10 of the fatal road accidents occurred on federal roads, six on municipal roads, two on state roads, two on highways and one on other roads.

Municipal roads recorded the highest number of road accidents at 585, followed by federal roads (396 cases), state roads (247), highways (89) and other roads (83), bringing the total number to 1,400.

In yesterday’s road safety operation, 12,690 summonses were issued to road users for various traffic offences.
