An Internet cafe cashier from Segamat, Johor was sentenced to 11 months’ jail and fined RM2,500 by the magistrate’s court in Kuala Lumpur after he pleaded guilty to criminal intimidation and possession of lewd material.  

Muhamad Sukri Kassim, 21, was sentenced to eight months’ jail and fined RM1,000 in default five months on the first charge of intimidating a 21-year-old woman with the threat to publicly expose a nude photo of her.

He committed the offence under Section 506 of the Penal Code, at Block A-3-18, Kelumpok Bambu A in Jalan AU2, Keramat Wangsa at 2.30pm on June 15 this year.

On the second charge of keeping lewd photos and an obscene video in his mobile phone, Muhamad Sukri was sentenced to 11 months’ jail and fined RM1,500, in default seven months.

He committed the offence at Block 30, PKNS Flats in Jalan Plumbum 7/97, Section 7, Shah Alam, at 4.20pm on June 16 this year.

Magistrate Abdullah Siddiq Mohd Nasir ordered the two sentences to run concurrently.

Earlier, Muhamad Sukri, mitigating for a lenient sentence, said he was remorseful of his action and had to support his parents who were suffering from chronic illnesses.

However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Rozana Husin pressed for a deterrent sentence, saying the offence involved the dignity of the complainant and her family.

“If the photos had been exposed, it would have disgraced the victim no matter what his relationship was with her,” she submitted.
