BN government is open to criticism, says Mustapa

The government is open to and accepts whatever criticisms for the benefit of the people, said International Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamed.

He said the government would adopt suggestions by the people as they were the ones who determined the administration in power.

"The people are the kingmakers. If the government in power does not listen to them it would not be able to retain its authority.

"The fact that we have been able to maintain power until now is proof that we are sensitive to the people's needs and willing to make changes that would benefit them," he told reporters after a meet-the-people session and Aidilfitri gathering with new undergraduates of Universiti Sains Malaysia's (USM) health campus in Kubang Kerian last night.

Mustapa said the government did not want to govern the country improperly.

Support for gov’t not dwindling

He also dismissed reports in pro-opposition news portals that support for the government was dwindling, describing such reports as an old story.

"That is an old story by them; what is important is that the government sees the people's needs as priorities, hence the transformation being carried out," he said.

Meanwhile, Mustapa said more than 4,000 job opportunities were created after the establishment of the USM hospital about 30 years ago.

"There are 4,500 potential job opportunities and Kubang Kerian which used to be a paddy-farming area has developed extensively since the USM hospital was set up," he added.
