Germany orders money-laundering probe on Taib

Onyourtoes: Dear PM, if a foreign government, indeed a very respectable one, has called for investigation into money laundering of one of your chief ministers in the Federation of Malaysia, may I know what you ought to do as the prime minister of the country?

Answer:

a) Make no statement.

b) Pretend you don't know.

c) Suspend him immediately pending full investigation.

d) Call for an immediate state assembly sitting to pass a motion of no confidence on him.

e) Declare a state of emergency in Sarawak and sack him.

KitaAkanSiasat: Let's give the PM one more choice:

f) Pack your bags, leave Malaysia and run away like a fugitive.

Anonymous_3ec6: It's totally unacceptable to learn foreign governments can take action or investigate the corrupted practices of our politicians where else our local MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) is toothless.

This speaks volumes for the independence and integrity of these organisations. Malaysian enforcement agencies are a big joke.

Alan Goh: Keep up the good work, Bruno Manser Fund (BMF), for exposing the Sarawak chief minister in Germany.

Please also file a case to the finance ministry of the US, Great Britain and Australia. Follow the money trail of the billions of foreign assets the pirate of Sarawak and his family have acquired with their ill-gotten money.

In fact, all corrupted Malaysian politicians who owned properties overseas, especially Australia, should be investigated and put behind bars when they fail to account for their wealth.

Taib is a grubby and greedy man. How can a person who has squandered so much still crave for more?

IloveBN: Malaysian politicians have become so powerful with all the monies that have been stolen from the people of Malaysia that they can even buy their way through BaFin (Germany's Federal Financial Supervisory Authority).

All investigations will be done and Taib is going to come out a victor with BaFin declaring all his dealings with Deutsche Bank were legal, documented and every cent involved accounted for. I wonder how much he may have to pay to clear his name.

I don't trust anyone anymore. BMF is doing a good job but I suspect they will be stopped in their tracks.

Mikey: Pardon me if I am not jumping up and down in joy. There has been too many "investigations".

While the hard work of BMF and all the NGOs should be applauded, I for one don't think that foreign governments will do much unless it is to their benefit. If we want change we got to do it ourselves - through the ballot box.

Bersih 2.0 wants reforms speeded up before PSC

AB Sulaiman: Everyone who has any love and sense of patriotism for this country should support Bersih chief S Ambiga's contention.

This should include the Election Commission (EC) that had contended all along that the many errors in the electoral roll under its care are all of typos, clerical or otherwise, and human errors.

Now, show us your sincerity, EC, by showing your active support for Ambiga's call.

Onyourtoes: Errors in the electoral roll due to careless mistakes (both human and technical) are very different from errors due to fraudulent activities.

Errors due to careless mistakes can be more easily resolved because they are not intentional and probably not that many. Errors arising from fraud would be more protracted because they are targeted, deliberate and probably disguised.

From the disclosure so far, how many are due to careless mistakes and how many due to fraud? You be the judge.

Cawat Kote: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nazri Abdul Aziz is in fact trying to buy time by saying that the scope of the PSC (Parliamentary Select Committee) would be widened to look beyond the eight demands made by Bersih 2.0 so that the whole implementation cannot be done before GE13 is held.

Hibiscus: The EC actually has the power to implement each and every Bersih 2.0 demand without referring to Parliament. However, since it is required to give face to certain individuals, discussion by the PSC is okay. But do it quickly.

There is no need to widen the scope of PSC to go beyond the eight demands of Bersih 2.0. Any widening of scope of PSC will be deemed an act tantamount to derailing implementation as it will be viewed with great suspicion as a delaying tactic so that nothing will be implemented come the next GE.

As and when each of the demands is decided, steps should be taken immediately to implement it, without waiting for decisions regarding the remaining ones.

The PSC should already know what decisions the rakyat want to hear. Those MPs in the PSC and others who oppose any of the demands must be individually identified and exposed.

Jtfo: In my view, the government should stop the delay tactics and clean up all the rubbish that had gone on in the 12 th GE and earlier. What the rakyat want to see this coming GE is justice and transparency.

Kgen: I frankly doubt any proposal will be implemented before the next GE, not even indelible ink. This is all talk only to buy time with no real intention to act. The public should not be fooled.

Anonymous_40f4: No way are Umno and Najib going to implement election reforms, not ever. They are just shooting in the air to fool the rakyat. The next GE will be another ‘buy election'. The crooks will continue to rule in Putrajaya.
