Using the Internal Security Act (ISA) against PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu, who allegedly hailed the communist as heroes in the Bukit Kepong massacre in 1950, is unnecessary, said ex-inspector-general of police Haniff Omar.

He said this was because Mohamad Sabu's statement did not threaten national security.

However, NONE Haniff ( right ) said an investigation could be carried out under Section 505 of the Penal Code as the the statement was tantamount to public mischief as many quarters were angered by it.

"The Sedition Act could also be used because he had said that PAS came into power, he would change the history of the country. There are elements of sedition here," he told reporters after holding a meeting with Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein, in Putrajaya today.

Commenting further, Haniff said he noted that Mohamad Sabu, more popularly known as Mat Sabu, did not show any regret about making the statement.

The attorney general should also take into consideration public interest when deciding whether action should be taken against Mat Sabu or otherwise, he added.
