The Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros) will submit research findings on the effectiveness of the 24th Ops Sikap to the Transport Ministry for further action next month.

Its director, Associate Professor Dr Mohd Faudzi Mohd Yusuf said the research was conducted in three stages, namely two weeks before, two weeks during and two weeks after the operation.

“So far, we have completed the report on the research conducted before and during the operation. We need two more weeks to complete the research after the operation,” he told Bernama in Bario, Sarawak yesterday.

Meanwhile, he said Miros had also proposed an integrated action involving education, enforcement and engineering, to tackle the rising accident rate in the country more effectively.

He said this was because the three aspects mutually influenced each other.

    

“If we focus more on education or less on enforcement or only on engineering, the effort will not produce effective results. An integrated action involving these three aspects should be intensified,” he said.

Mohd Fauzi said although the rising number of road accidents was mainly contributed by human factors, efforts to overcome the issue should not necessarily be focused on them.

“This is because accidents can also be avoided if the speed of vehicles be reduced and condition of roads improved,” he said.
