Malaysia's infrastructure group United Engineers said it has won a RM903.70 million (US$238 million) project in Qatar to build a national highway, marking its successful foray abroad.

The contract followed a US91.28 million dollar project it landed in June to build a college in Qatar, the company said in a statement.

Lowest bidder

The project involves the construction of a dual four-lane highway linking the capital Doha to Salma at the Saudi Arabian border, it said in a statement to Bernama

news agency.

Chairman Abu Hassan Kendut said UEM was among seven international companies bidding for the project and also the lowest bidder.

"The project will take 30 months to complete and we expect to hand over the completed project in April 2006," he added. - AFP
