Selangor exco Hasan Ali today denied allegations in a blog that he is quitting PAS to join Umno.
Hasan (

), who is also an PAS central committee member, called the allegations “speculations”.
“I am with PAS and am committed to its struggles. It is because of PAS’ slogan of leadership by the ulama that got me to join PAS.
“Secondly, not only because of the leadership of the ulama, but PAS also upholds (the principles of) an Islamic country based on the principles of the Quran, the sunnah , the consensus of the ulama, and principles of qias ,” he said at a press conference at his home today.
He reiterated that he was not joining Umno, saying he received over 15 phone calls and 25 SMS last night regarding the matter.
The Selangor exco in charge of Islamic affairs landed himself at the heart of the controversy over the Selangor Islamic Religious Department’s (Jais) raid on the DUMC church in Selangor last month.
While the church had denied claims that it has been proselytising Muslims, Hasan went on record to say that Jais had “ found evidence ”.
‘No meeting with Hisham’
Hasan further denied allegations that he had met with Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein to facilitate his membership.
“There was no meeting. I have never met or have any intention for a meeting. Maybe it was another Hasan, Hasan putu mayung maybe, but not Hasan Ali,” he quipped.
The Gombak Setia assemblyperson also denied allegations in the media and blogs that he had once been an Umno member or had been involved with the party.
“I have never at any time been a member in Umno and I have never had such intentions,” he said, adding that he hoped his explanations would quell the rumours.
“I am not suggesting that the speculations are malicious or meant to cause tensions amongst the parties, but I feel it’s best to let it rest.
“If you don’t hear it from the horse’s mouth, don’t let those who represent the horses speak,” said Hasan.
When asked why he was always surrounded with rumours about joining Umno, he said people could make all kinds of allegations about him.
“I am a public figure, they are bound to accuse me of all kinds of things. It has to come from my mouth, if it has not, why speculate?” he said.
