Muhyiddin praises PM for radical, bold reforms

Lexicon: DPM Muhyiddin Yassin said PM Najib Razak's announcement of the promise to abolish the ISA was 'surprising' and 'unexpected'.

So maybe Najib kept him out of the loop. Or maybe Najib told him, and he was lying about not being told.

Muhyiddin is now trying to claim credit for being part of a government that 'benefits the people' (ingratiating himself with the educated middle classes) and at the same time, also trying to escape blame (distancing himself from Najib, to dodge abuse from Umno's rabid right-wing, ie, the majority of the wretched party).

Sarajun Hoda: What aspirations of rakyat? Until just recently, when the people were demanding the very same thing, they were branded as traitors to the country, arrested, doused with chemical-laced water and tear gassed.

Today when Najib is cornered and had to repeal ISA, suddenly he becomes a hero? Muhyiddin should not insult people's intelligence in such a manner.

Jedi_Who: Muhyiddin is singing praises for the abolition of ISA by Najib - now we had better start getting worried.

Ksn: I am surprised about DPM's statement in two aspects. First, his hitherto unheard praise for his boss, the PM, when he normally would be expressing contradictory views.

Second, it appears that even the DPM was not aware of the PM's announcements, especially about the abolition of ISA.

I am surprised that the cabinet at least did not even discuss the matter - after all, the ISA has used ruthlessly at various times to ensure Umno's survival. Was there no study and reports from the Home Ministry and the minister himself?

I find that very hard to believe.

Onyourtoes: You see the cunning of Muhyiddin. He was ‘surprised' by the announcement but praised it anyway.

If the announcement turned out bad, he can always say he was not part of the decision. If it turned out good, he has supported it.

These are ‘principle-less' politicians we get in our ‘tanah air' (country). They never believe in anything other than their own survival. They are like ice cream sellers - they just sell, they don't have to believe that the ice cream is good.

We must continue harping on his ‘Malay first' ideology. We must continue to make sure that all leaders aspiring for national leadership shall never again resort to the racist route like what Dr Mahathir Mohamad did years ago.

If we allow this, it will be another 50 years of racism.

Wira: Read between the lines - what Muhyiddin probably meant was, "Najib, you are reckless (that's brave and courageous too).

"Yes, we are listening to the voices of people but we are going to replace it with laws that will ensure the regulation of freedom (ie. dissent). This we will not compromise."

Disgusted: Muhyiddin aka Brutus doesn't mean what he says. You will see his true colours after the next GE if BN scrapes through on a slim margin.

Then he will activate his plan with Mahathir's help to stab Najib in the back, like the way he did to ‘sleepy head' (Abdullah Ahmad Badawi).

A big drama awaits in Umno's theatre.

Tired: Malaysiakini should cease its slanted reporting of the DPM trying to unseat the PM. That is purely speculative.

It's better to report on other definite things, such as Kota Shah Alam state assemblyman M Manoharan wanting to change the national flag when Pakatan Rakyat comes to power.

His reason - the Malaysian flag looks like the US flag. Can you all believe that? If Pakatan really forms the next government, I will start praying hard, especially if Manoharan is made the home minister.

Docs: To Naijb, I say beware of the fellow that sings your praises by day as he may be the one to stab you back by night.

Then again, every politically active Malaysian knows that DPM is sharpening his axe awaiting the opportune moment to deliver the final blow to end Najib's political carrier.

That is a foregone conclusion. We are just wondering how Muhyiddin is going to do it.

FairPlay: It's time for the rakyat to learn a new lesson. Don't waste time and energy commenting on what BN leaders say. Just watch what they do.

Black Mamba: All BN men will praise Najib for getting the abolition of ISA through before the next election. Obviously none of them wants to put be held under ISA by Pakatan when it comes to power.
