Kedah Umno said today it had not put up posters critical of opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim in conjunction with his attendance at the Kedah PKR Aidilfitri open house at the Sultan Abdul Halim stadium yesterday.

Kedah Umno chairman Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said the party was not responsible for putting up the posters, which also bore the state government crest and the PAS logo, at various places in this town.

He said he himself felt that the putting up of the posters was an irresponsible act aimed at tarnishing the event and disuniting the people, and called on anyone who had seen such posters to lodge a police report.

"If we (Umno members) see such posters, we will also lodge police reports.

"Let the police investigate and find out who the culprits are," he told reporters.

Bashah said the Aidilfitri open house was a public reception for all the people regardless of race and not a political event.

"I agree with Kedah PKR chairman Wan Salleh that Anwar's presence was to attend the event and not for political reasons.

"We have to give due respect to the reception," he said.

Ahmad Bashah said he was thankful to Kedah Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak for his understanding in the matter.

Azizan and the Kedah Stadium Corporation have allowed the use of the stadium by the Barisan Nasional for a 1Malaysia Aidilfitri open house tomorrow.
