Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim said the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) report on its raid on a Church last month has been completed but refused to divulge details.

He said the report would be submitted to the Sultan, as the head of the religion in the state, before an announcement would be made next week.

“I have received the report from Jais and I have asked for the report to be submitted to the Sultan. If any issue arises, I will discuss it with the Sultan,” said Khalid.

NONE At the sidelines of a function in Klang today, Khalid said he expects to make a few announcements after the Sultan grants him an audience.

The report details the Aug 3 raid at a dinner function at the Damansara Utama Methodist Church (DUMC) in Petaling Jaya.

Organisers said that the event was a charity dinner while Jais said that it carried out an “inspection” following a lead that suggested Christian proselytising of Muslims was taking place.  

The raid attracted widespread condemnation from non-Muslim religious groups that have accused Jais of being overzealous.

Eventually, 12 Muslims at the event while called up by Jais for questioning, while Khalid initiated his own investigation , calling upon both the department and the dinner organisers for a dialogue.

Khalid had called on members of the public to be calm pending the outcome of the Jais investigation, which he described as a delicate matter that needed to be thoroughly deliberated .

However, purported copies of the Jais preliminary report eventually made their way onto pro-Umno blogs that claimed the department indeed had proof that proselytising activities did take place.

Some of the blogs even published pictures and details of the 12 Muslims called for questioning, in a move that their lawyer said had potentially compromised their safety.

Following this, video clips showing the Jais version of events were uploaded on several other pro-Umno blogs, purportedly depicting event organisers stalling department officers.
