Deputy inspector-general of police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar today advised PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu’s son, Ahmad Saiful Islam, to refrain from making baseless statements against the police.

Khalid described Ahmad’s statement alleging that police were the culprits behind an arson attempt at their house as puzzling and illogical.  

“If you do not have a basis to make such a claim, then don’t,” he told reporters after visiting Marine Operations Force’s Region Two headquarters in Tampoi in Johor Baru.  

Khalid said Ahmad Saiful should either make a police report or meet himself and inspector-general of police Ismail Omar on the matter, that is if he had evidence to support such a claim.       

In the 12.40am incident on Sunday (Sept 19), an unidentified individual threw a Molotov cocktail at Mat Sabu’s double storey link house in Petaling Jaya, slightly damaging the front gate.

    

On Kota Alam Shah assemblyperson M Manoharan’s statement on Facebook about changing the Jalur Gemilang (national flag), Khalid commented that police were still looking into the matter.

“We will consider what needs to be done.  We’ve advised earlier, don’t say things as you please which could hurt others or create unease among the people,” he emphasised.

He urged all parties concerned to be careful in making statements irrespective of the number of reports police receive on Manoharan’s controversial statement.
