The Attorney General’s Chambers today withdrew its application for a revision of the open verdict made by the Coroner’s Court in the inquest into the death of political aide Teoh Beng Hock in July 2009.

Deputy public prosecutor Manoj Kurup said the decision to withdraw the application was made following the setting up of the royal commission of inquiry into Teoh’s death, which had issued its finding last July 21 that Teoh died due to suicide.

Manoj said he applied to withdraw the application before Senior Assistant Registrar Khairul Nizam Abu Bakar when the matter came up for case management.

He said the application was filed prior to the setting up of the royal commission.

“Now that the commission has made its decision, there is no need for the AG’s chambers to continue with the revision,” he told reporters in Shah Alam today.

Meanwhile, Teoh’s family lawyer, Gobind Singh Deo, told reporters that the application for the revision still stands as they had filed a written submission  during the last mention date and had brought the matter to the court’s attention.

The court had fixed Oct 6 for case management to decide the status of the application, he added.
