An employee of a solid waste disposal company has alleged that he was assaulted by the police while at work in a housing estate in Kodiang, near Jitra, last Saturday.

Mohd Ridzuan Mohd Noor, 23, who was met by reporters there today, claimed that while he was cleaning up the area about 11.30am, he had advised a man to use a nearby bin and not to litter the place.

According to him, a quarrel ensued and the angry man even threatened that he would have shot him if he had a gun.

He said that about 30 minutes later, five men came and started hitting him, after which they handcuffed him and took him on a motorcycle to the Kodiang police station.

"At the police station, I was taken into a room and assaulted. The man who had quarrelled with me came and joined in as well. I then realised that he was a policeman too," he added.

He said he was held in the lockup for about half-an-hour before being released.

"I went to the Jitra Hospital to get treatment and the doctor said I had bruises on my left cheek, shoulder and ribs. I also made a report at the Kubang Pasu police headquarters," he said.

Meanwhile, Kubang Pasu police chief Supt Ibrahim Mohamad Yusof confirmed receiving the report, and said: "We have started investigating the incident."
