The DAP will not go very far in the rural areas, Parti Rakyat Sarawak president James Jemut Masing said today.

Masing, who is state land development minister, said the DAP was very urban-centric and not equipped to take on the "geographical challenge" of going to rural Sarawak.

"The DAP brand of politics as it stands will not be easily accepted by the majority of rural folks.

"This is because their politics is based on allegations, half-truths and criticisms," he told Bernama in Sibu.

Masing said the outcome of the state election last April was an indication that the rural population had rejected the opposition.

The Sarawak DAP recently set up a protem committee in Kanowit, and stated its intention to come to Kapit and other rural towns.

Masing, who is state assemblyman for Balleh in Kapit, said it might be able to attract a few Dayak intellectuals who were basically government critics, but there were many more intellectuals with BN.
