Expelled Parti Kesejahteraan Insan Tanah Air (Kita) secretary Abd Latif A Tambi and central working committee (CWC) Muhamad Firdaus Christopher Abdullah, whose membership was suspended, will complain to the Registrar of Societies (ROS) in Putrajaya tomorrow that the moves were against the party constitution.

NONE Abd Latif ( left in picture ) claimed that his expulsion as party secretary by the president, Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, via e-mail on Sept 14 and the letter of suspension against Muhamad Firdaus ( on the right ) as a member for six months, dated on Sept 15, were invalid.

"In Article 11.3.3 of the party constitution, it is stated that the president is empowered to appoint three key officials, namely the treasurer, secretary and information chief, but in Article 16, the power to expel lies with the Disciplinary Committee.

"This is only after an investigation has been carried out and the people, on whom action is being taken, have been given a chance to defend themselves," he told reporters in Petaling Jaya today.

No opportunity to defend himself

Kita, which was set up in January this year, is now going through a turbulence when many of its CWC members strongly criticised the "unethical and unconstitutional" act by Zaid in expelling and suspending the two CWC members recently.

Commenting further, Abd Latif claimed he did not have an opportunity to defend himself against the action taken against him with regard to several internal party matters such as allegations that he was bringing down the party leadership, abuse of power and tarnishing the party's image.

"Nonetheless, I call on those making the lies and allegations to stop such acts because the allegations were baseless and aimed at bringing down my political career," he said.

Meanwhile, Muhamad Firdaus, who regretted the suspension of his membership, said he was puzzled why the letter that he received on Sept 13 was signed by Masrum Dayat, as an executive committee member, although his name was not stated as a member of Kita.

"If the letters were signed by the secretary, namely Abd Latif, I can accept, but they were signed by Masrum (Dayat) whose membership is still disputed until today," said Muhamad Firdaus, who said he only knew of his suspension through the media on Sept 21.
