Deputy Home Minister Abu Seman Yusop has warned errant policemen that stern action would be meted out if they commit wrong-doings.

Abu Seman (right) was commenting on a claim by a solid waste disposal company employee that he was assaulted by the police while cleaning an area in a housing estate in Kodiang, Kedah, about 11.30am last Saturday.

At that time, Mohd Ridzuan Mohd Noor, 23, said, he had advised a man, in his 40s, not to litter the area but to use a nearby bin.

He said that in a quarrel that ensued, the other man became angry and threatened to shoot him before leaving the place.

Mohd Ridzuan claimed that subsequently, the man returned with five other men and assaulted him.

He was then handcuffed and placed in the Kodiang police station lock-up.

Upon his release from police custody about 30 minutes later, Mohd Ridzuan lodged a report at the Kubang Pasu police station.

In another development, Abu Seman said Malaysia and Thailand enjoyed good bilateral relations, with issues involving the countries solved in the spirit of neighbourhood.

He said representatives from the two countries also met often to discuss matters of bilateral interests.

"Relations between members of our security forces and their Thai colleagues are also good," Abu Seman told reporters during a visit to the border areas in Bukit Kayu Hitam today.

He was accompanied by Border Security Division secretary and Anti-Smuggling Unit director-general Ab Rahim Ismail.

He said efforts would be made to improve infrastructure facilities to upgrade security in the border areas.
