Zaki: Good judges don't come cheap

Ksn: Ex-chief justice Zaki Azmi, there will be many lawyers who will be prepared to take the job for RM400,000, as well as the perks and other benefits, including pension for self and the family.

There are also many I believe who are reluctant to join the judiciary because of its tainted reputation, and the incompetency of the present judges. They may not wish to be grouped with that category.

Your judgment that lawyers do not join the judiciary purely for financial considerations is, to say the least, infantile.

49boybum: This interview with Zaki reflects the utter destruction of our judiciary whilst reflecting the calibre of the current crop of judges and the appointees who bring disrepute to an institution that is supposed to uphold the constitution and integrity of the nation.

Unfortunately, the current judiciary set-up has compromised their integrity for position, power and financial gains.

An institution that personifies dignity, respect and uncompromising integrity has been sullied to fulfill the selfish whims and fancy of the corrupt executive.

Those with integrity will never be considered for high judicial positions even if they agree to reduced remuneration because they will not compromise their integrity and as a result be a thorn to the corrupt and unscrupulous leadership.

May all Malaysians be aware of this, and be wise and uncompromising in exercising their rights as responsible voters and citizens of our beloved country.

Anonymous_3e06: Zaki, from what you said there is a lack of civil service culture. They are there for the good life and money. Maybe there are judges who want this, rather than work hard for their wages. That is why some of the judges are not able to do their job properly.

Jedi_Who: The judiciary has now become an extension of the government ‘orchestra'. Only those who are seeking political clout and influential networks and fast promotions, rewards and perks work their way through the system.

43Hours: Zaki, not all good professionals work for money. There are so many good doctors and other professionals who work for the government because they like to help ordinary folk.

So take a better look at your existing staff and monitor them rather than employing from the private sector - where money rules.

Bluemountains: Good lawyers are not willing to join the judiciary because promotion has never been based on merit.

Furthermore, they cannot deliver justice in accordance with the law. They don't want to join a circus and be called a clown.

Blue Forest: Penang Gerakan chief Dr Teng Hock Nan, just keep quiet and discreetly go into retirement.

Gerakan is dead in Penang and also in Malaysia. You had your chance to rule and make a great contribution, but you squandered that opportunity.

Now is the era of another Lim - Lim Guan Eng - to lead Penang back to glory. Just accept the fact that Gerakan was finished in Penang when Dr Lim Chong Eu retired from politics.

Teng fails to realise that Gerakan is history since the day it joined BN as they are caged under its master, Umno.

At least, Gerakan is free to express their discontent under the Pakatan Rakyat government without fear of being sent to Kamunting.

But Teng, Malaysians do appreciate your criticism as proof of democracy and transparency at work.

Kadaram: Dr Teng Hock Nan, I am impressed with your facts and calculations. But why the same calculations were not done on BN projects like the Bakun dam, Perwaja Steel, Westport, independent power producers, MRT and so on?

Louis: Teng is aspiring to be the next CM and Gerakan is still dreaming that they still have influence in Penang. Teng, please ply your trade in Johor. Maybe you have a slightly better chance there.

Wfworker: Teng must have spent so much time preparing this report merely to distract major issues facing the nation - all created by his party and BN.

Since the basic issue raised is affecting those people living around that project, the sensible thing to do is to have a simple referendum from the people over there.

The proper issue to raise up is to ask why Gerakan, after umpteen years of controlling the government, has been rejected by the people.
