Annoyed by an Utusan Malaysia commentary criticising his debut movie Nasi Lemak 2.0 , rapper-cum-filmaker Wee Meng Chee, who is better known as Namewee, disparaged the Malay daily in his latest video, calling it a “rubbish paper”.

The article authored by Fauziah Arof, entitled ‘ Bukan Nasi Lemak 2.0, soalnya Namewee ’ (Not Nasi Lemak 2.0, the problem is Namewee), was published last Wednesday.

Fauziah wrote that although many gave the thumbs-up to the movie, she is not interested in watching it even if she were offered a free movie ticket.

NONE She then recounted several video clips made by Namewee, which she said had offended many people and insulted Muslims in the country, including the controversial Negarakuku .

Responding to the article, Namewee uploaded another video clip in the Malay language to video sharing website YouTube last night entitled ‘ Namewee Fxxx Utusan ’.

The video, running slightly less than three minutes, showed a frustrated Namewee speaking in colloquial Malay, whacking the daily and Fauziah.

Although all the profane words interspersed in the video have been muted, some of them can still be heard vaguely.

Responding to the attack against his previous videos, Namewee rebutts by saying: “ Dulu, dulu apa xxx? dulu punya polis ah, pakai seluar pendek leh; dulu punya orang ah, jalan pakai basikal leh; tapi sekarang you naik apa? You naik AirAsia leh! ” (Last time, what xxx last time? Police in the old days wore short pants, people in the old days used bicycles to travel, but now what do you take? You take AirAsia!)

He argues that all the songs composed by him are patriotic in nature and questioned whether Fauziah understands the lyrics.

“ Lu tak faham, lu cakap saya dulu buat apa xxx... Saya kutuk siapa? Dulu saya kutuk siapa? ” (You don’t understand but you said last time I xxx... Who have I criticised? Last time who have I criticised?)

“ Saya panggil orang jangan jadi orang yang perkauman. Saya panggil orang kerja betul-betul. Saya sokong 1Malaysia tak boleh ah? ” (I urged people not to become racist. I urged people to work seriously. Why can't I support 1Malaysia?),” he says, adding that his movie featured artists from different races.

Namewee then raps the ‘brainless’ Fauziah for writing the article without watching his movie first, which is not professional for a journalist.

Should Fauziah have financial constraints, Namewee says, he is willing to offer two free tickets for Fauziah and a friend to watch the movie.

“ Sampah tu suratkhabar, sampah! Sampah masyarakat, sampah penulis! You tulis sahaja, you ada pen, you ada keyboard, you sudah boleh jadi reporter ah? XXX! ” (That newspaper is rubbish, rubbish! Rubbish of society, rubbish writer! You just write, you have pen, you have keyboard, then you (think you) can become a reporter? XXX!)

‘Minister had made it clear he did not break any law’

NONE He also stresses that Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, whom he met last year, had made it clear that he did not break any law.

“ Ikut law lah, kalau you benci saya sendiri, you benci dalam hati lah, kenapa you tulis macam ini di suratkhabar? " (Please abide by the law. If you hate me, keep it in your heart, but why did you write like this in the newspaper?)

Flaunting his degree in mass communications, Namewee urges Fauziah to “go back to school” if she cannot carry out her duties professionally.

“ Saya ada degree tahu, mass communication tahu. You jangan tipu saya tak pernah makan durian, tahu. Suratkhabar ialah laporkan, lapor! You judge orang macam apa? Bukan tulis you shiok sendiri punya. You punya certificate dari mana punya? Longkang ah? ” (Mind you, I have a degree in mass communication. Don’t think that I never eat durian so you can cheat me. Newspapers should report, report! But you judge other people. You don’t write for self-obsession. Where does your certificate come from? The drain?)

“ Kalau you tak tahu apa ialah reporter ah, you balik sekolah dulu. You panggil you punya boss dengan you dengan you punya kawan semua balik sekolah dulu. You fikir semua suratkhabar yang lain semua bodoh punya kah? ” (If you don't know what is a reporter, you should go back to school first. You should ask your boss and yourself and your friends to go back to school first. You think all other newspapers are stupid?)

Namewee says that he can accept criticism from those who have watched his movie but not from Fauziah, who did not conduct any “research” before commenting.

He ends the video with a montage that reads “I say no (to) Utusan Malaysia ”. The montage also modified the daily’s motto from “ Penyebar fikiran Rakyat ” (Carrier of people’s thoughts) to “ Perosak fikiran rakyat ” (Damager of people’s thoughts), and “ Utusan Malaysia ” to “ Utusan Meloya ” (Nauseous News).

On his Facebook page, Namewee has posted a ‘disclaimer’ reiterating his anti-racism stand.

“If you really support me, you should know that I’m anti-racism. If you watch carefully all my videos, you would find that no matter how much of profane language I used, I have never said that Malays are pigs.

“If you support Namewee because you think Namewee is anti-Malay, then I’m sorry to tell you that you have supported the wrong person.

“This movie refers to Utusan , a dirty, racist and extreme newpaper... They don’t check the facts and report neutrally but undermine the relationship among different races. I hope everyone can help to share this video, thank you very much!”

In a posting on Facebook later in the evening, Namewee said he will remove the video at midnight tonight. He claimed in Chinese that he is doing this for his family and good friends and hoped people would understand his decision.

Nasi Lemak 2.0 , the first movie directed by Namewee, has received strong support nationwide, raking in more than RM4 million so far.

However, certain groups held a demonstration outside a cinema in Ipoh that was showing the film, raising fears that it may lead to a ban on the movie.
