The Kuala Lumpur High Court today allowed an application by the Selangor government and three others for the discovery of documents in relation to Balkis, the charity organisation of wives of assemblymen and members of parliament in Selangor.

Judge Rohana Yusof, who made the decision in chambers today, ruled that the documents were relevant to the proceedings, and that they were in possession of the Registrar of Societies (ROS).

However, counsel for state government (applicant) S Selvarajah told reporters that the judge dismissed the application for leave to cross-examine ROS registration officer Tairah Yusof.

"The judge ruled that if there was any appearance discrepancy or contradiction in the evidence, it could be determined and resolved by court at a substantive hearing," he said.

Selvarajah said the court fixed Oct 21 for judicial review hearing.

On Sept 28 this year, the Selangor government, Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim's wife Salbiah Tunut, who is the current Balkis president, Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad, Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Berhad and Perbadanan Kerajaan Negeri Selangor filed an application for discovery of the documents regarding notice for the annual general meeting (AGM) dated March 11, 2008, the attendance list of Balkis members for the AGM (March 11, 2008) and the minutes of the AGM.

The applicant also asked for Balkis' membership list, on which the ROS relied upon to verify the attendance of Balkis members for the said AGM.
