Terengganu police chief Jamshah Mustapa said the 48 year-old man was arrested at his home in Kuala Ibai at about 5pm yesterday.
Police also seized a pistol toy, sunglasses and a motorcycle believed used by the suspect when making the threat.
“The suspect is a mental patient and has nothing to do with any case handled by the DPP,” he told a press conference in Kuala Terengganu today.
Jamshah said the investigation papers will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor soon for follow-up action.
The suspect, who is a former teacher, is being remanded for four days for further investigation.
DPP Zalina Awang, 39, and her 14-year-old daughter were threatened by a motorcyclist armed with a pistol when her car stopped at a traffic junction in Kuala Terengganu on Sunday.
