BN is confident of wresting back six Federal Territory parliamentary seats from the opposition, in the coming 13th general election.

NONE Federal Territory Umno deputy chairman Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin said the confidence was based on increasing support from the voters.

He said that BN had made early preparation and went down to the grassroots to solve the people's problems.

"We always work for the good of people and have never tried to ruin any party. They (opposition) only know how to find fault, do not give any suggestion to help the people and criticise our programmes," said Raja Nong Chik, who is also federal territory and urban well-being minister.

He was speaking to reporters after launching the Jinjang Focus Action Programme in Kuala Lumpur today.

In the last general election, BN was only able to retain the Setiawangsa, Putrajaya and Labuan seats but lost the Batu, Titiwangsa, Bandar Tun Tazak, Lembah Pantai, Wangsa Maju, Segambut seats to the opposition.

The other four seats in the Federal Territory, namely Cheras, Kepong, Seputeh and Bukit Bintang are DAP strongholds.

Affordable loans for public housing

Meanwhile, Raja Nong Chik said that about 24,000 applicants who faced problems obtaining bank loans to purchase houses under the People's Housing Project (PPR) will be provided loans under a scheme managed by a 'Special Purpose Vehicle' (SPV) of the Federal Territory Foundation.

 

He said the buyers would be given loans with monthly repayments of between RM150 to RM300.   

"When the loan is provided, the buyer should be responsible to repay the SPV and we will try to obtain the cabinet's approval as soon as possible to approve the scheme," he told a media conference here today.  

He said the ministry had obtained capital amounting to RM1.5 billion from the Employee Provident Fund to assist homebuyers who could not obtain bank loans because of financial constraints or were blacklisted by the banks.     

Nong Chik said the government was always finding ways to assist the lower and medium income group to obtain a PPR house without facing financial constraints.     

He said for those who could not afford to buy PPR houses and flats, they could rent first as the government had provided 35,000 units of PPR houses in Kuala Lumpur.
