The Kedah Umno wants an explanation on a statement by a member of the state executive council that part of the fund allocated by the federal government for road maintenance has been spent on salary and the state administration.

Kedah Umno liaison chairperson Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said the state government should explain to the people its reason for doing so.

"The money should be spent to repair damaged roads. The people complain of many damaged roads, but is ignored by the state government, and as a result, accidents happen. People are injured and their vehicles are damaged.

"What the state government is doing is depriving the people of good roads," he said in a statement today.

Ahmad Bashah was commenting on a statement by the State Housing and Local Government Committee chairperson Phahrolrazi Zawawi, which was published in a newspaper yesterday, that the remaining fund from the allocation for road maintenance was spent for payment of salaries, state administrative cost, etc.
