The Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) wants Malaysia to provide more information on an incident involving two Singaporean women who were allegedly forced to do nude squats by immigration officers in Johor Baru last June.

Following media reports in Malaysia that the Malaysian authorities had provided a reply to a Parliamentary question on the matter, MFA has asked the Malaysian High Commission in Singapore to provide more information, it said in a statement in Singapore today.

The statement said MFA and the high commission were in regular contact on the status of the investigation into the case involving the women who were detained temporarily for an alleged immigration offence and the manner they were treated during detention.

MFA said the understanding was that the outcome of the investigation would be conveyed to Singapore as soon as it was ready.

“This has not been received, to date,” it added.

The nude squat issue was raised in the Malaysian Parliament by opposition member of parliament Fong Po Kuan.

In reply, the Malaysian Home Ministry had said the officers in the case had exercised their responsibilities in a “good and orderly” manner.

The two Singaporean women had said they mistakenly entered Johor Baru without getting their passports stamped, by driving through an unmanned immigration lane.
