Subang Jaya police chief ACP Zainal Rashid died today after complaining of chest pain while playing golf at the Bukit Kemuning Golf and Country Club. He was 56.

Zainal was confirmed dead at the Columbia Asia Hospital in Kota Kemuning where he was taken at 12.45 pm, said a hospital spokesman. He had been playing golf with several other senior police officers.

His body was sent to Serdang Hospital for the post mortem.

Selangor CID chief SAC Mohd Adnan Abdullah, when contacted, said he was informed of Zainal's death in the afternoon.

He said Zainal would be buried this evening at the Muslim cemetery in Taman Putra Perdana, Puchong.

Meanwhile, Selangor police chief Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah described Zainal as a police chief who was always proactive in implementing safety programmes in the state.

"Whatever plans or initiatives I had, he was the first to carry them out, such as 'Ops Payung' and community policing.

"I feel the loss of an officer who was committed and supportive of police leadership," he told reporters at the Subang Jaya police headquarters surau here today.

Tun Hisan said he was at the golf course when Zainal complained of chest pain and was sent to the Columbia Asia Hospital in Kota Kemuning.

Zainal, who served as Subang Jaya police chief since April 1, 2007, is survived by a widow and five sons.
