Malaysian consumer prices in October rose by 1.3 percent from a year earlier and 0.1 percent from September, the Statistics Department said today.

For the ten months to October, the consumer price index (CPI) was up 1.2 percent year-on-year.

According to data released earlier, inflation in September rose 1.1 percent year-on-year and was up 0.2 percent from August.

In the January-October period, prices rose due to increases in all main components, with the exceptions of clothing and footwear, which declined by 1.9 percent, and furniture, furnishings and household equipment and operation which fell 0.5 percent, the department said.

Transport and communication rose 1.8 percent, medical care and health expenses increased 1.8 percent, food 1.3 percent and miscellaneous goods and services added 1.3 percent. - AFP
