The Kubang Pasu District Council (MDKP) has identified about 300 owners of homes, business premises and factories with the highest quit rent arrears to be brought to court.

MDKP revenue arrears and enforcement division chief Zakariya Ahmad said the court action was being taken against owners who had not settled quit rent arrears of over RM1,000 and more than five years.

"This (action) is necessary as they ignored warning letters and notices issued by the council, so their homes and business premises may be auctioned if they are found guilty," he told reporters in Jitra today.

Zakariya said the council would drop court charges against owners should they settle their arrears before the end of November.
