Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin today attended the 225th meeting of the Conference of Rulers at the Istana Negara.

Tuanku Mizan was accompanied by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

The two-day meeting, which ends today, is chaired by the Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V.

All the Malay Rulers attended the meeting except for the sultans of Terengganu and Pahang.

The Tengku Seri Bendahara of Terengganu, Raja Tengku Mustaffa Kamel, represented the Sultan of Terengganu (who is now the Yang di-Pertuan Agong) and the Tengku Mahkota of Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, represented the Sultan of Pahang.

The Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sarawak, Tun Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng, and Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud did not attend the meeting. Tun Abang Muhammad is undergoing medical treatment.

The menteris besar accompanied the Malay Rulers and the chief ministers accompanied the Yang Dipertuas Negeri of Penang, Sabah and Melaka, respectively.

The keeper of the rulers' seal Syed Danial Syed Ahmad said the chief of defence forces Zulkifeli Mohd Zin and inspector-general of police Ismail Omar briefed today's meeting on national defence and security matters.

The director-general of the Economic Planning Unit in the Prime Minister's Department, Noriyah Ahmad, gave a briefing on the economic situation of the country, he said.

The meeting also discussed matters associated with Islam, appointments and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong scholarships, he added.
