The Council of Former Malaysian Elected Representatives (Mubarak) is requesting the government to also consider extending the special payment to government pensioners announced in the 2012 Budget to its members.

Its secretary-general, Abdul Rahman Ibrahim, said there were more than 1,000 former Malaysian elected representatives and that they were hoping to also receive the payment which would be paid to government pensioners next month.

“We hope Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak will consider our request,” he told reporters after visiting former Merbau Pulas assemblyperson Pora Omar at her house in Kampung Keladi, Kulim yesterday.

During the visit, Abdul Rahman handed over contribution from Mubarak to Pora, 72, and her husband, Abu Hasan Ismail, 74, who lost his sight a few years ago.

Abdul Rahman, accompanied by a few Kedah Mubarak members, also visited a few other ailing former elected representatives in the state, including Zakaria Said and Abdul Hamid Tahir.
