Peter Chin vows to lead SUPP for three years
Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) organising secretary Peter Chin has promised to lead the party for the next three years.
Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) organising secretary Peter Chin has promised to lead the party for the next three years.
“I said I will do it for three years. This is my promise. I have been asked by the grassroots to stand. I would be happy if I tried and failed, maybe. At least, I have tried.
“If I do not offer myself and retire, it would be embarrassing for me, in the eyes of the party members,” he told reporters in Putrajaya today.
Earlier, the energy, green technology and water minister attended a gathering of the ministry’s staff and its agencies in Putrajaya.
Chin ( left ), who has never indicated his interest to contest in the president’s post, surprised many members on Sunday when he announced his intention to be in the race for the post after being persuaded by party leaders and supporters.
“The members feel that I’m the most suitable candidate to revive the party, which lost badly in the April 16 state election.
“I feel that if I run away, it is not a solution. It would be irresponsible of me, as someone who has been so long in the party and benefited from the party,” said Chin, who is also Miri member of parliament.
On Oct 9, in Sibu, Wong Soon Koh (

Wong, who is also party deputy secretary-general, would be teaming up with SUPP assistant secretary-general Lee Kim Shin.
The Wong-Lee combination has been dubbed ‘Pineapple Team’ as Wong-Lee sounds like ‘ Huang Li ’ in Mandarin, which means ‘pineapple’.
Chin described the battle between him and Wong as a “friendly contest”.
The four-day SUPP triennial delegates conference will begin on Dec 8.
